Naltrexone, leading in many cases to confusion. It is the aim of this report to shed some light on this topic and to introduce the layperson to this drug and its uses. There are two similar chemical substances: Naltrexone and Naloxone. Both are generic names, the names of the chemical substance with some effects on human body and brain. In this paper I only will concentrate on one of both drugs, namely Naltrexone. The drug is 41 years old, has appeared in the published clinical literature for over thirty years, and more than 1700 references to it are to be found in the Medline database. It is sold under the trade names Nabilon, Nalorex, Nemexine, Narcan. These denominations vary from country to country

Some young people who sniff glue or solvents appear to "get away with it" for a long time, but the habit is always associated with risk. The immediate effects are similar to those of excessive alcohol consumption. Mood and behavior are affected. DANGER to others can result from antisocial behavior such as acts of vandalism or violence.

DAMAGE to liver, kidneys spleen and brain can follow repeated sniffing. DEATH
can occur even after the first attempt to sniff: . * from suffocation due to the child becoming unconscious with his head in a polythene bag or as a result of him spraying aerosols directly into the throat . *through choking caused by the breathing in of vomit while unconscious .*as a result of injury while in a confused state, for example, from walking in front of traffic (or jumping from a building) .*up to 24 hours later if the youngsters engage in vigorous exercise (aerosols freeze the respiratory system)

Composition* Pure cocaine is a white powder refined from the leaves of the coca bush. Coca paste is a smokable intermediary product in the refining process of cocaine. * Cocaine sold on the street is cut usually with lactose, procaine or lignocaine. * Cocaine can be turned into "free coca base" or "crack"; both are white powders, often produced in the form of porous lumps. Crack is a form of cocaine that has been chemically altered using baking soda and ammonia. It draws the name from the cracking sound it makes when being heated. It is very addictive. * Cocaine is snorted through the nose, dissolved in alcohol or water and drunk as a "cocktail", or injected. It is also smoked (freebased).

                                                        * Exhaustion .* Unpleasant skin sensations, e.g.: "cocaine bugs", which is a sensation of imaginary insects crawling over the skin. . *Excessive eating . * Insomnia . *Restlessness .* Weight loss . *Visual disturbances . *Reduction in hunger and thirst. .*Cocaine is one of the few drugs which both humans and animals, upon easy availability, will continue to self-administer until they die. Superhuman feelings of great energy and alertness occur. . *Prolonged snorting results in the nose collapsing and severe bleeding due to damage caused to the membranes and linings of the nose. .*The price has dropped considerably, due to bumper crops and easy availability. It is now a very popular drug with ecstasy users.

Ecstasy is a hallucinogenic amphetamine. It is technically known as 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA for short. It is a synthetic (man-made) drug and in its pure form it does not contain any amphetamine. However, what is sold today as Ecstasy varies hugely in purity. It tends to be one of the most adulterated drugs on the market. It can be cut with anything from L.S.D., morphine, speed (amphetamine), caffeine, anti-histamines, paracetamol, cold-cure powders and even strychnine. Because of this, it is a very unpredictable drug and therefore very dangerous. There have been some Ecstasy tablets which have been contaminated with heroin or methadone (a heroin substitute) and sold as "White Doves". Ecstasy comes in the form of an innocuous-looking tablet, which can range from brown or white to pink. It can also come in clear or yellow capsules , and trades under such names as "Love Doves", "New Yorkers", "Disco Burgers", "Mad Bastards" and "Dennis the Menace". There is a thriving industry being built around the Ecstasy culture, especially in the areas of fashion and music. Ecstasy usually takes between 30-60 minutes to take effect and produces a state of euphoria.

                                 * Heroin is a semi-synthetic narcotic from the family known as narcotic analgesics, which means it is a strong sleep -inducing pain killer, these drugs are known as opiates. *Heroin was developed as a substitute for morphine addiction, unfortunately heroin is much more potent and addictive.* Heroin is the end product of an intricate chain of manufacture, and often contains other drugs added to produce particular grades of heroin e.g.: Far Eastern heroin made for smoking contains strychnine.* Heroin comes in the form of powder and varies from white to brown and has a bitter taste.* Heroin can be snorted up the nose, smoked or injected. Most probably for regular users injection is preferred. It can be skin popped (injected under the skin) or mainlined (injected into the veins). * Many opiate substitutes are used by the addict when heroin can not be sourced such as methadone, dipipanone, morphine soleplate tablets etc.* Heroin is a highly addictive drug - a serious, painful process of physical and psychological dependence on the drug can occur in a relatively short time . * With heroin addiction the problems are widespread and very dangerous - sharing needles and syringes with friends can cause a severe form of viral hepatitis which can lead to liver cancer.* Intravenous users are a high risk group for HIV infections which can result in the development of AIDS.

Anabolic steroids come in a variety of forms including tablets, capsules and inject able. They are legitimately used in the treatment of the elderly for osteoporosis and other diseases of the bones and muscles. However, the abuse of anabolic steroids represents an ever increasing problem. They are illegally used in many health clubs, spas and black market situations. This is a growing concern in Sweden and in many sports all over the world, where there is increasing abuse among athletes.

Steroid hormones are synthetic chemicals that mimic those produced by the body, The hormones control bodily function and are separated into various classifications such as adrenal, cortical, cardiac, bile salts, vitamins and sex hormones. The anabolic steroids that build muscle tissue are classified as sex hormones and stimulate the action of the male sex hormone testosterone. When released at the appropriate time, testosterone has the natural effects of creating body size, body hair, sex organ maturation and muscle tissue development. Manmade chemicals make up the anabolic steroids that build muscle tissue.

LSD, also known as 'acid1, is taken from Lysergic Acid Dieth ylamide. LSD is classed as a hallucinogenic which distorts or intensifies the various senses, so that sounds are 'seen1 or colors 'heard'. This is called synesthesia or synesthesia. Acid can appear in any form e.g. pieces of blotting paper, sugar cubes, microdots, tablets, capsules and powders of various textures and colors. LSD appears on sheets of absorbent paper which are divided into squares and printed with a motif e.g. Bart Simpson, Double Dip Strawberry, Winged Key, Sonic the Hedgehog etc. The drug disrupts transmission of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that enables the brain to make sense of all the scents, sights and sound. LSD interacts with serotonin to lower the brain threshold for sensory stimulation, causing a temporary overload of nervous system circuitry.

Khat (or Cat) is a plant grown mainly in East Africa and Southwest Arabia. It has intoxicating effects when the leaves and bark are chewed. Main areas of commercial cultivation have traditionally been in Yemen, Ethiopia and Kenya. The first instance of illegal manufacture in the United States is believed to have occurred in the late 1980's or early 1990's. In Sweden certain ethnic minorities have been known to abuse the drug. Low dosage produces euphoria, feelings of well- being and power. High dosage produces disorientation and hallucinations. Intoxication usually lasts four hours. Daily consumption of 250-400 grammas is common in the countries of origin.

Though systematic epidemiological studies on the negative effects of Khat on health are still limited in their scope and depth, available information on general, clinical and descriptive observation, points to a wide range of medical complications. Apart from the psychic dependence and general adverse psychological reactions such as morning irritability, reduced vitality and late arrival at work, there are also reports of true psychiatric disturbance, episodes of aggressive behavior and psychotic excitation.
